New Zealand Open Source Awards...
Stray Cinema has been nominated for an open source award here in new zealand. we are a finalist in the 'Open Source for Creativity' category. You can read about it on m-net. Apparently the 'creative' category was added last minute to reflect the interest in that sector which is great news.
jaycut.com
i recently stumbled upon Jaycut, which is similar to eyespot and jumpcut - it is a film sharing website that provides free online editing tools, allowing you to edit a film using your own or shared footage uploaded by their community. the main difference between jaycut and these other websites, is that jaycut allows you to output the film you make as a file or put it straight onto youtube.
i think this is an important difference. If you do not have an editing programme to make a film submission for Stray Cinema, then you can upload our footage to jaycut, edit your film using their editing tools, then upload the finished product to our website. you can also download your finished film so you have the file to do with as you please.

"As all media becomes digital, the remix will emerge as its dominant construct. An understanding of this is crucial for anyone interested in how public consume and interact with media: no longer passive but recombinant and collaborative. Culture has become inherently intertextual as media users mix and blend references and material. The only limit...is your imagination."
