naughty tom

taken from TechCrunch...
"Newsweek has confirmed our story that MySpace cofounder Tom Anderson, who automatically becomes everyone’s first friend when they register for the site, has lied about his age.
When MySpace was founded in 2003, Anderson claimed to be 27 years old. At the time he was actually 32. Today he claims to be 32, when in reality he celebrates his 37th birthday next week, on November 8. Anderson’s Wikipedia page has been updated to note the controversy. His MySpace page, for now, continues to perpetuate the fiction."
SpiralFrog - free music downloads
By michelle, 4 years, 6 months ago - 2 comments

I think SpiralFrog is a great idea. i found it earlier this year at beta stage. i rediscovered it again the other day, but was disappointed to find that only people living in the U.S and Canada can use it!
You can go to their website and download music for free. How? Well the advertising revenue from the website pays the artist.
I'm not sure how much the advertising pays out, but i imagine this set up would appeal especially to unsigned artists, keen to get their work out there. For this reason the site could provide you with the opportunity to find new and undiscovered music.
I think this is a great in-between solution to free downloads and pay per download. Here you get free music, the artist gets paid and so long as you don't mind the advertising then everybody wins...right?
In this ever-changing digital landscape of filesharing and illegal free downloads I love to see companies that embrace these changes and provide alternative solutions that benefit both artist and user.
directorscute is back!

Music for your film
By michelle, 4 years, 7 months ago - No Comments
Music is an important component in film. A quick digression - I have actually been listening to quite a few music soundtracks lately - my favourites being Solaris, American beauty and The Pianist. For something really abstract but strangely inspiring then try Bjork's Drawing Restraint 9...
Anyway, back to the subject at hand, I wanted to bring to your attention our music options page. Here you will find links to myspace pages and websites of musicians who want you to use their music in your Stray Cinema film submission.

B-Side records have been especially kind by creating a special Stray Cinema page on their website, with direct downloads to their music. Thanks b-side!
Creative Clusters - London
By michelle, 4 years, 7 months ago - No Comments

We were asked to speak at this conference, unfortunately i can't make another trip to London this year, but it looks great if you are anywhere nearby.
From their website: "Creative Clusters is an independent policy conference examining the growth of the creative economy. We are interested in initiatives from around the world that are designed to have an impact in both cultural and economic terms.
Creative Clusters believes that creativity is the key factor driving development. Across the world, enterprises based on individual creativity are booming. Furthermore, knowledge and culture-based activities now play a central role in the activities of all businesses. This is the era of the creative economy.
These changes are having a dramatic impact on global culture and on the economy. Our goal is to help people engaged in the development of the creative economy to communicate and share resources with one another."
