It's my birthday

it always amazes me how quickly word can spread over the internet, especially in blog world.

yesterday stray cinema was featured on Technology website Read/ WriteWeb. i have been following the traffic to our site since the article went live, and today it is already four times what it usually is...and it's only 2pm. i have also found five other blogs that have already picked up on the story and covered it on their own websites.

"Information, we think, wants to be free. If information can be said to have a memetic life, then it must be a force that desires very much to go wherever it wants. Information is spread when it is interesting, when it is important, or when there is some relevant reason to spread it." -[url=http://www.straycinema.co]www.straycinema.com/about

in other news, it's my birthday today. i am now 25.

I found a website called SellaBand today.

"A website deigned to fund bands/artists so they can get into the recording studio. Each Artist issues 5,000 so called 'Parts'. Parts cost 10 dollars (plus transaction costs) each. Each Artist's fans have to raise 50,000 dollars to get their Artist of choice into the studio. At any point before their Artist has reached the goal of 50,000 dollars, fans can withdraw their Parts and pick a different Artist. They can even get their money back." ideafarm.com.au

The audience or public decides what they want to hear and vote with their time and money. I think this is much better than a music label with a huge marketing budget, force feeding us a product in order to make a profit. This can be applied to film production studio's as well. Ahh now don't get me wrong, I have no problem with making a profit from your art - whatever it may be - I just don't think it should be the main motivation or drive behind an artistic project, and i think with commercial work that money often is.

Anyway, SellaBand is an example a certain type of idea that inspires me. its all part of a political movement that is happening at present, and i believe that one day we will look back at this time and see what is happening online right now, with the same significance currently attributed to the great political movements of the last 20-30 years - you know with the various protests with billboards outside universities and government buildings - except our protests come in the form of blogs, forums, chat rooms and any other way we choose to communicate with each other and the authorities online, and websites that hand the reigns of control back to the public and allow their community to have a voice, are supporters of this movement. yes?

(Sorry about the bad grammar btw, i just couldn't be bothered with full stops today. hopefully you get my drift?)

Ways to tell your story

By michelle, 4 years, 12 months ago - 1 comment

I think our latest submission For the love of shoes is a great example of how much of an influence music can have on the story being told, when editing a film.

This takes us up to 26 submissions, which means we only need four more films and then we can set a date for the London screening event.

Four more I tell you! Anyone...?
